Patron was founded in 1989 by John Paul DeJoria and Martin Crowley and is produced at Hacienda PatrOn in Atotonilco El Alto, Jalisco. It pioneered the ultra-premium tequila category and is distilled using a unique blend of traditional tahona and modern roller mill production methods. Now owned by Bacardi. El Alto is a limited release highland Reposado from Atotonilco el Alto — the highest part of Jalisco — where agave grows at elevation and develops a distinctively refined, floral profile. It draws on 11 different barrel types.
