Gaja, run by the Gaja family in Barbaresco since 1859, is widely regarded as Piedmont's most influential wine producer, with Angelo Gaja credited for elevating Nebbiolo to world-class status and pioneering single-vineyard bottling in the region. Alteni di Brassica, first planted in Barbaresco in 1983, was one of the first Sauvignon Blanc plantings in the appellation, named for the stone walls and yellow spring flowers once typical of the Piedmont landscape.
